Are architects over-rated? After all, it is the construction crews that do all the work, right? It doesn’t take much to realize how foolish it would be to consider the architect an unimportant part of the building project. Imagine the chaos that would ensue if a group of builders all began to build one day, but without a blueprint or a picture of what it was they were supposed to build! One might be intending to build a skyscraper, but another might have a vision for a sprawling one-story building. One might think it needs 12 rooms, another might think it would be better to have a fewer number of larger rooms. So, now, architects are not over-rated (though they may be over-priced)!
In a lot of ways, the above scenario reflects some of the potential pitfalls of starting a new church. If we aren’t careful, everyone comes to the task with their own vision - whether it comes from their past experience, particular convictions, personal preferences, etc. Fortunately, we have been careful to keep everyone on the same page from the beginning, but as we are entering a season of increased ministry opportunities, it is a helpful time to make sure that the blueprint is clear.
We are also sitting on the edge of a tremendous blessing by God, as more and more families and individuals are becoming interested in our ministry. It is time to be reminded where we are going, so that everyone can recommit themselves to helping steer the same ship, and so that we can present a clear vision to a community that asks, “What?” and “Why?”
So, consider this my call for our church to gather for a special series of meetings, and an open invitation to anyone from the community who is interested or curious in finding out what directions we have from our Architect - Jesus Christ, the Builder of His Church.
