Myanmar
By Derrick | May 6, 2008
Regarding the cyclone in Myanmar, the death toll keeps rising. This is from the Associated Press:
A news broadcast on government-run radio said Tuesday that 22,464 people have now been confirmed dead and thousands more are missing.
Yes, this is the same Myanmar that was in the news a few short months ago for this…
Tens of thousands of Buddhist monks march in antigovernment protests. The junta imposes a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the major cities of Yangon and Mandalay. In late September, the military government cracks down by tear-gassing crowds, arresting hundreds of monks and killing several protesters.
It is also a place noted for its persecution of Christians: (from VOM)
The government of Burma continues to discourage, harass and use other, more severe, forms of persecution on any group or belief they consider harmful to the state. Christianity is high on their list for eradication; all the while the government claims freedom of religion.
There’s more…
The struggles Myanmar has weathered in recent decades have led to a sharp rise in the number of women opting to work in the sex industry to escape poverty. Once confined to a small domestic market, the sex trade is now opening to an emerging tourist market.
Two simple questions: What ought we do? What keeps us from serving the people of Mynamar?

I discovered there is a movie called “Anonymously Yours” made in 2002. It is a documentary that deals with sex trafficking in Burma (Myanmar) by chronicling the stories of 4 different women. Does anybody know anything about this movie? I had never heard of it before I stumbled across something about it today.
